We offer four different types of membership. Any interested members that do not have a firefighter certification in New Jersey will be sent to the fire academy at no cost to the potential firefighter.
General Requirements:
- Shall be a minimum of 18 years of age
- Shall work or reside in Washington Township, Morris County or Tewksbury Township, Hunterdon County
- Shall successfully complete Fire Fighter I training within two (2) years of joining
- Shall be in possession of a valid New Jersey driver’s license
- Shall have a physical examination, current within the last year, by a licensed physician in the State of New Jersey
- Shall complete a department application form
General Responsibilities:
- Shall not absent himself/herself from three (3) consecutive meetings, drills or any combination thereof, without prior notice of just cause (notice shall be given to the officer in charge of the meeting or drill)
- Shall not to absent himself/herself from duties after answering a call without permission from the line officer or member in charge
- Shall attend sixty percent (60%) of all meetings, sixty percent (60%) of all drills, sixty percent (60%) of all designated activities, and sixty percent (60%) of all fire alarms
- Shall abide by all rules and regulations in the Fire Company policies and procedures or as handed down by the President, Chief, or member in charge
- Shall maintain all training requirements
- Shall maintain the highest standards in performance of their duties and in their personal lives
Membership Categories
Active Member:
A person may become an active member after a one (6)six month probationary period
Responsibilities:
- Must attend sixty percent of all meetings, drills, designated activities, and fire alarms
- Has voting privileges
- Is eligible to hold an office in the fire house
Auxiliary Member:
A person may become an auxiliary member by:
- Providing significant service in fund raising
- Working to aid in community awareness programs
- Working in any non-fire function important to the Company
Responsibilities:
Provide support on a regular basis to the activities outlined above
Deputy Member
A person may become a deputy member by:
- Being a firefighter in good standing of another company in Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, or Warren Counties
- Living or working in Washington Township, Morris County or Tewksbury Township, Hunterdon County.
Responsibilities:
- Entitled to respond to emergency calls
- Required to attend a minimum or four drills per year
- Not entitled to vote
- Not eligible to hold office
Junior Member:
In addition to the standard membership application, the following is required for junior membership:
- Written permission from the applicant’s parent or legal guardian
- Three (3) written letters of recommendation from outside personnel
- Be a minimum of sixteen (16) years of age
- Reside in Washington Township, Morris County or Tewksbury, Hunterdon County
Responsibilities:
- Shall aid the active members of the Fire Company in the performance of their duties
- Must attend sixty percent of all meetings, drills, designated activities, and fire alarms
- At no time when answering alarms or participating in drills may a junior member enter a burning or smoke filled building
- Will not respond to any hazardous material spills or leaks
- Not entitled to vote
